Don’t let the homeschooling-mom-good-Christian-girl façade fool you, Nicole is one of the messiest people you’ll meet and she owns it 100%. A political science major in college, she doesn’t actually like politics, or the insurance that she sold for a while afterwards. But she likes Jesus a lot. Actually, the most. So, she writes blogs about Him, and does ministry for Him, and she also runs a home-based business and makes sure He gets the glory, surprising unsuspecting people with gifts and offerings from the bounty. Always passionate about her work, Nicole also recently received the award for best GIF usage among her friends and coworkers. And she pretty much can fix anything with a loaf of her freshly-baked bread.
Nicole is a mom to three lovely daughters who are very well protected by a shockingly-handsome discerning dad who also gets the blessing of being married to Nicole. They have two fierce guard dogs appropriately named Fifi and Wilbur.
I could feel her standing behind me. Her patient demeanor only served to grate on my nerves. Clearly, she had no idea how daunting it was for me to try to choose which can of salty snacks would appease my mood. Once I turned and leered at her over my shoulder, I realized the mission had been accomplished as she sighed heavily and swerved her cart around in the other direction. I probably was just as inappropriate as I cussed the frozen foods guy out in my head for taking too long to unpack the ice cream sandwiches, and covetously, at the gorgeous young gal with freshly blown-out hair near the vegetables. After all, we’re only in a grocery store and you look like that? I came looking like I had rolled in from a frat party, with the noise still in my head of the realization that my kids were growing up too fast, and the frustration written all over my face that half of what I was buying would probably expire before someone in my house ate it, and I probably don’t eat enough vegetables, and I am a mess.
But, I’m a woman of God … shouldn’t I be free of my mess? Not exactly. That’s a work in progress. I’m working out by faith, and by grace, one step at a time, up the mount and back, with Him.
Part messy recollection, part discipleship tool, Nicole will walk up and back with you from your own Mount of Messy. Get ready to laugh, be challenged, and probably shed a few tears as well, as you hear from a real woman of God, what it truly looks like to work out your mess, and your salvation, by grace alone.
EMJ Press humbly presents its first offer, "Sermon on the Mount of Messy." It is a collection of writings written devotional style. You will have the opportunity to glean from author, Nicole Horsch's, revelations of grace in her own messy life. You will also have the opportunity to address your own mess and reflect on the ways the Lord is working in your own life.
